When you type ‘Dirleton Castle’ into Google it places it in North Berwick on the map – this is incorrect, it is in Dirleton – see map below).
From Edinburgh (A1) (25 mins from A198 exit):
· Get onto the A1 near Edinburgh (note: you do not need to go into Edinburgh)
· Stay on the A1, hugging the coast.
· Leave the A1 by taking the A198 exit toward ‘North Berwick/Prestonpans/ B1361/Cockenzie/Tranent/B6371’
· Stay on the A198 for about 15-20mins – this will involve taking the 2nd exit at the first roundabout you come to, then the 3rd exit at the second one, and the first at the third one (all are signposted A198)
· Keep following signs for the A198 driving through Aberlady followed by Gullane (all on A198)
· Once you have driven through Gullane, look for a left-hand turn signposted Dirleton (B1345). Take this road and follow it round until you see a pub on the left called The Castle Inn – note: great place for a drink, or food if you are early – there is a turning opposite the pub where you might be able to park (behind the public toilets).
From North Berwick (5-10 mins):
· The High Street takes you straight out of town on the A198. Stay on this road for 5 minutes and look for a turning to the right signposted Dirleton Road B1345 – take this turning.
· Follow this road round until you see a large village green on your right (just after The Open Arms pub on the right). The castle is tucked behind the wall on your left.
· Parking is the next left opposite The Castle Inn – note: great place for a drink, or food if you are early. There is a turning opposite the pub where you might be able to park (behind the public toilets).
From East Linton (20-25 mins):
· Start at the square and drive through the village past the butchers and Co-op.
· Turn right onto Preston Road shortly after Co-op – B1407, signposted Tyninghame. Follow this road through Tyninghame (tiny village) until you reach a T-junction.
· Turn left onto the A198 and stay on this road all the way through North Berwick (see directions from North Berwick above)
From Haddington (20 mins):
· From the High Street drive West down the High Street towards Edinburgh. It will become Court Street. At the traffic lights turn right onto the A6137 (Hope Park).
· Stay on this road – it will become Aberlady Road
· Take second exit at roundabout (A6137)
· When you reach Aberlady you will turn right onto the A198 towards North Berwick.
· Stay on this road, driving through Gullane
· Once you have driven through Gullane, look for a left-hand turn signposted Dirleton (B1345). Take this road and follow it round until you see a pub on the left called The Castle Inn – note: great place for a drink, or food if you are early.
From Dunbar (30-35 mins):
· Leave Dunbar on the A1087 (West Port Road à Belhaven Road à High Street à Edinburgh Road) and at the roundabout take the A199 sign posted East Linton.
· At Kirklandhill Junction turn right onto the A198 signposted North Berwick
· Stay on this road all the way to North Berwick (see directions from North Berwick above)
