Hopefully there will be lots of people to follow, otherwise stick to the following directions like glue…
1. With the castle on the left-hand side of the road, leave Dirleton on the B1345 passing the Castle Inn pub on your right.
2. This road will come to an end (t-junction), meeting the A198. Turn right onto this road and then immediately left onto the B1345 signposted Drem.
3. Stay on this road for about 5-10 minutes – you will pass a mushroom farm and various signs to Fenton Barns – it is quite windy.
4. When you reach Drem it is a tiny village and you want to take a sharp left-hand turning (B1377), which is just before Drem train station - signpost to a opposite a B+B. Follow this road to the end, which runs along the side of the train tracks for about 5 minutes.
5. At the T-junction turn right onto the B1347 – signposted Athelstaneford, East Fortune, and Museum of Flight– going under a bridge (railway line).
6. Follow this road for a minute or two until Merry Hatton garden centre appears on your left just after a sharp bend in the road. Take the next turning on the right after the garden centre – signposted Athelstaneford, East Fortune and Museum of Flight.
7. You stay on this road for a few minutes, going over a little roundabout and passing the entrance to the Museum of Flight.
8. Take the next left signposted Gilmerton.
9. Follow this road which is straight at first then bends to the right and then takes you up quite a steep straight hill. Take the turning on the left half-way up the hill sign-posted Markle.
10. Follow this road for about 2-3 mins, passing a farm on the right and cottages on both sides of the road. Drive on past some farmed fields, looking for a turning on the left signposted Crauchie (the signpost is in the bushes on the right so be careful you don’t miss it – NB if you hit a level crossing you have gone too far). Turn left down this track (gravel track) and follow it all the way for about a mile until you see a huge marquee in the garden – you have arrived!
